Bubo virginianus – Great Horned Owl
The Great Horned Owl is the largest species of owl that lives in Georgia. There are native breeding populations of Great Horned Owls in every state but Hawaii! Zeus is one of the founding members of our group of education raptors. Like so many of our rescued birds of prey, he was struck by a car. The accident left Zeus with a spine injury that has affected his ability to steer and stop when he flies. This year marks his 17th year in the education business. On more than one occasion, we have had young parents tell us they first met Zeus on a school field trip and now they are bringing their children to see him! A wise old owl indeed.
