We just added a new member to the cast. Hunter is a male Eastern Screech Owl. If you’ve read the post on Goliath, you’ll know that Eastern Screechers come in two color versions or morphs: gray and red. Hunter is a Red Morph. The color is a superficial difference like skin color in people. It is not an indication of sex or species difference. Both Morphs live in the same habitats and are common in Georgia.
Screech owls live throughout the US east of the Rocky Mountains. They feed primarily on small animals and bugs. Hunter came to us from Big Bend Wildlife Sanctuary in Enterprise, Alabama. He lost an eye due to his injuries but, otherwise, he’s doing great.
