Blue Ridge Raptors is a mobile raptor education program that brings live birds of prey to schools, libraries, and community groups to teach the public about these wonderful animals and their place in the world we share. We also do programs at private businesses that are open to the public. Our goal is to reconnect people in our technology driven world to the wildlife and ecosystems around them. What we value, we protect. Losing our connection with nature often leads to choosing economic expedience over conservation. We believe that when we reconnect our community to our natural world people will think differently about the choices they make in their personal lives and what they ask of their community leaders. We believe they will make a little more room for the wild places and the creatures that live there.
This program teaches people about the unique attributes of raptors and addresses the challenges of declining habitat, the hazards of toxic chemicals and the role humans have played in both endangering and protecting these majestic birds.
5 birds are used in the presentation – one red tailed hawk and 4 owls (great horned, barred, barn and eastern screech) All the birds are non releasable because of some sort of permanent injury. All have a unique story to tell. All of these birds are native to North Ga.
